OMG A FOLLOWER!!!!

I'm still working all this blog thing out so was most suprised to see i have a follower!!!! Thank you so much i really am gonna have to get this blog sorted and actually keep posting now!

Although i haven't been posting i have been very busy, unfortunately i have gone back to work so am pretty whacked out...but i have gutted my wardrobe!! I have literally put everything on ebay and am only now having vintage inspired clothes bags shoes. I was fundraising at a 1940s re enactment show and the weekend and loved it, i was expecting to feel a bit silly but felt right at home dressed like that so thought i would just go the whole hog and sell everything and replace it with cute vintage items. I managed to pick up a bag two dresses and and a cardigan while there which i will get pics of and post for you to see. the dresses are quite 50s inspired and the bag is just so cute! I've got a few goodies on their way from ebay so will snap them as they arrive...myvintage..esque journey seems to be travelling quicker than i had planned!

refashion project to do

A project to do, i'm thinking of shortening it to just below knee length and adding a think black waistband to it maybe using the cummerband pattern that came as part of the vintage shirt pattern i have lined up to do. I also need to make some netted underskirts to go under my 1950s style skirts so think a trip to the fabric shop is in order. I will start outfit posts tomorrow now i have worked out how to post pictures!!!

My first sewing project!!

A terrible picture taken on my very badly done duct tape dress form, it is actually i really nice shimmery copper fabric that i picked up from a car boot sale for £1.50 not sure how much fabric there was but i think i've got enough to make another dress from it. Until my sewing skills improve i think i will be better off sticking to looser fitting items as i think they will be a bit more forgiving and not look quite so home made. I'm also not sure i picked the best fabric to work with first time as it is quite slippery and silky maybe the cotton fabric i have for the shirt will be a bit easier..who knows!!

My next project

Another vintage pattern from ebay dated 1953 i'm so wary of damaging the pattern though i'm tracing it onto tracing paper to use as the original is starting to disintergrate. I'm going to make the short sleeved version which will be nice for summer and quite versatile i think it will go well with skirts or trousers. The fabric is a red cotton but it looks a bit dull on the photo even though it's actually a nice bright red...and for some reason all my pictures and coming up sideways...i have a lot to learn on this blogging thing!

New vintage patterns

My new vintage patterns from ebay..i never realised how much they sell for some people were bidding some silly prices for them but i managed to get these at a reasonable price, so i'm now on the lookout for some fabric to start making them with!

Disasterous start to the month!

Well it's not going to plan with me-made-may i think i took on a bit to much as i had never made anything before so i think i will revise my pledge to a more reaslistic one...for the rest of may i will wear one item twice a week that i have made or refashioned in some way...but will try and make some items from scratch for this pledge! I may of managed to keep up the original pledge but other events have taken over and kept me away from the sewiong machine...me being ill, supporting hubby in starting his new job etc. But he started his new job today which he was so nervous about bless him but i know he''ll be fine once he gets into it! I am still completely useless with the whole blogging thing so have to do individual posts to put photos on or it doesn't come up right...think i need some computer instruction!!

Friday 30 April 2010

Busy month for me in may, I've taken a pledge with wardrobe refashion, the pledge is that i shall refashion renovate, recycle preloved items for myself for the term of my contract. I pledge that i shall create and craft items of clothing for myself with my own hands yarn or other medium for the term of my pledge. I had taken this pledge for two months but think i will up it to life pledge as i have pretty much been doing this already for many years. I'm combining this with made it may on sozo blog site where people are joining her in her pledge to wear handmade clothes for the month of may. As i've never actually made an item of clothing before i will be joining the lite version pledging to wear one handmade item of clothing a week during the month. I'd better get busy then as i've only got a week to make something wearable! I'm bidding on some vintage 1950s sewing patterns on ebay at the minute so hopefully i'll some lovely vintage patterns to try out during the month!
